Why we chose guided play for My Tribu

Mari shares how My Tribu was born, what she found trying many classes with her daughters, and why guided play became the heart of the program.

I have two daughters. One who is three and a half, and a baby who is ten months old. And when I became a mom, a question started growing in my head, how do I create a space where my baby and I can learn together, without pressure, in Spanish, outdoors, with other moms close by?

That question led me to try many classes, read books, watch videos, and talk with other moms in Doral. I took something from each experience. Slowly, with Lau, we started imagining a program that had everything we were looking for.

That program is My Tribu. And it was born from guided play.

What is guided play?

Guided play is a way of accompanying a baby through exploration. It is not fully free play, where you leave them alone and watch what happens. It is not a highly structured class, where you tell them exactly what to do at each moment. It is something in between.

There is a theme. There are materials chosen with intention. There is a guide who knows when to step in and when to give space. And there is a baby who is the lead, exploring textures, sounds, movement, language, all at the same time, at their own pace.

When a baby plays with purpose, their brain builds connections that will stay with them for a lifetime.

The beauty of guided play is that it recognizes something simple, babies are already learning. They do not need us to stimulate them like a project. They need a rich environment and our presence with them. That is it.

How My Tribu was born

We tried many classes with our daughters. Some were lovely. If you love bilingual music classes, we highly recommend Little Beats, they are wonderful and we learned a lot from them. If your child needs to burn physical energy, gymnastics classes do that very well.

What we felt was missing was a space with more action and a clear focus on early development through guided play. A place where Spanish was the primary language, where moms felt accompanied, and where a full session was designed with pedagogical intention from start to finish.

Lau and I met as moms before we became co-founders. She is Colombian, an educator and therapist with more than eight years in early development. I am Argentine, raised in Miami, a communicator and mom. We had the same vision, so we decided to build it together.

What you will feel in a class

Classes are outdoors, on the lawn at Doral Yard. They are small groups, maximum ten families per class, so we know everyone by name and every baby is seen. Each session lasts forty-five minutes and follows a rhythm, welcome song, circle, themed exploration, music and movement, goodbye song.

For the music block I play several live instruments. I put together songs that are unique to this program, mixing Spanish and English the way they live in a Doral home, naturally, without forced translations. Lau designs every themed activity with a clear developmental goal, sensory, motor, communicative, emotional.

We do not stimulate. We accompany. The difference is small on paper and huge in practice.

What surprised us most as we imagined My Tribu was this, when you feel accompanied as a mom, your baby feels it too. The calm of you sitting on the grass, the connection with the moms next to you, the presence of Lau offering you a comment exactly when you needed it, all of that is part of your baby's learning. It is a shared experience.

If this resonates, we will see you

Your first class is free. No commitment. You come, see how it feels, meet Lau and me, and decide. If you loved it, you stay for the eight weeks. If you prefer a different class, that is fine too, the important thing is that you find what your family needs.

See you on the lawn, with a coffee in hand and a curious baby alongside.
